We want to help make your wedding as perfect as possible. Because you are a church member, we can sometimes bend the following rules at your request. Please ask the minister or wedding coordinator before disregarding any guidelines.
"Member" weddings are available to church members and their children provided they have been contributing members of the church for at least one year. "Non-member" guidelines and fees apply to all others.
All weddings must be scheduled by the minister or wedding consultant and performed by University Congregational Church's minister or an ordained minister chosen by the church.
The rehearsal is limited to one hour, during which the minister and wedding coordinator work with the wedding party. Bride, groom and attendants should arrive promptly to make full use of the hour.
On the day of the wedding, you may arrive 3 hours before the start of the wedding and have use of the church for a total of 4½ hours.
We encourage you to take pictures before the service. This permits the wedding party to arrive at their reception without making guests wait too long. Groom and groomsmen are encouraged to arrive dressed since their pictures are usually taken first.
Flash pictures of the processional and recessional are permitted, but no flash pictures may be taken during the ceremony. (Camcorders may be used and non-flash pictures may be taken during the ceremony from the balcony only.)
We suggest your wedding announcements request that children under the age of 3 stay in the nursery during the wedding. (A church sitter is available for $30, or you may have a trusted friend use our nursery.)
Church schedules require the building be cleared 1½ hours after the start of the service.
Rose petals, if dropped during processional, must be artificial, and you are responsible for appointing somebody to remove them afterwards.
No rice, grain, glitter or confetti may be thrown either inside or outside the church. (When this tradition is observed, it is typically done following the reception.)
Receiving lines and aisle-by-aisle dismissals by bride and groom are discouraged, as they take up valuable picture-taking time.
No food and drink (other than water) are permitted on the main floor.
The Yamaha grand piano and the pipe organ may be used, along with a variety of other instruments. Taped music is not permitted.
Members may have a reception in Fellowship Hall. Arrangements and additional fees are coordinated with the UCC Women's Guild.
